Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

Any individual or group who makes (it could be a physical or digital object or process or combination of any of these) and wants to share their inventions, creations, knowledge, expertise, and creativity with others: students, artisans, engineers, artists, entrepreneurs, inventors, hobbyists, tinkerers, etc.  Makers of all ages and interests are encouraged to apply to exhibit.

What kinds of projects will be exhibited?

You tell us!  We want to highlight and celebrate the creativity of individuals and groups across diverse fields and mediums.  Exhibits featuring technology and art, science and engineering, hacking and tinkering, crafting and artisanship are common at maker faires, but the imagination and creativity of makers always surprises us.

What is the selection criteria?

Exhibits will be curated to highlight a diverse range of innovative, creative, ingenious, educational, and inspiring maker projects across a wide variety of fields and interests.  Projects that cross genres and disciplines, address problems, demonstrate innovative solutions, have individual or social impact, utilize emerging and/or accessible technologies, and/or inspire and teach others are especially welcome.  Interactive, hands-on exhibits and demonstrations that engage, teach, and inspire audiences are encouraged.

How do I apply to exhibit?

Fill out our simple online “Call for Makers” form.  The process is simple: we’ll ask you to describe your project and provide some information on what you need for your exhibit.

Is funding available?

We have a limited amount of funding to reimburse exhibitors to offset some of the costs of exhibiting your projects.  Priority will be given to student exhibitors (K-12 through college) and exhibitors with interactive activities.  In keeping with our mission to make making accessible to everyone, we also want to fund exhibitors who without funding would not be able to participate at MVMMF.  The deadline for priority consideration for funding is April 1, 2019.  If you plan to apply for funding, please be sure to keep receipts for expenses related to your exhibit.

I’m not sure I can exhibit.  Can I get involved in other ways?

Absolutely!  You can volunteer here (link coming soon).  You can also help by spreading the word and encouraging others to join us and to explore their own maker and DIY interests.
